Spielraum/Playground
2022
Spielraum/Playground: A Discovery Day for Kids in Langhanskiez was a workshop for children between 7 and 12 years old aimed at questioning the idea and use of playgrounds. It was carried out in collaboration with designer and urban storyteller Katya Romanova and social scientist and educator Josef Gehrke. It took place in the Langhans neighborhood in Weißensee, Berlin, as part of the KIEZ:MOBIL project and in cooperation with C*SPACE Berlin and Bezirksamt Pankow.

What is actually a playground? And what makes a space become one? On Saturday, 24 September (during World Children's Day week), a group of big young explorers went out on the streets of Weißensee to inspect, discover and, in the process, create playgrounds themselves!
We started the journey getting to know each other while playing games and doing a little warm-up at C*SPACE. Once ready, we made our way to our two discovery destinations: first to Streustraße 44, an industrial wasteland, and second to the neighborhood initiative and community garden HeiJaLa-Land. There we observed, searched for and collected objects that we found most interesting and that we would later play, paint and work with; all in all, we imagined and improvised the most amusing ‘invisible’ playgrounds! At the end of our adventure, we returned to C*SPACE and created our last playground of the day, this time on paper: a large and collective collage made with the objects we had discovered and gathered during our expedition.
